Movies discussed: Fido, My Boyfriend’s Back, Idle Hands
This week we are reunited with our comrade Adam, well via Skype at least. Turns out horror comedies are pretty light on the horror. Also, for some reason a debate about the merits of Boondock Saints erupts in the middle.
This weeks assignments: The Final Destination series! (Technically we only HAVE to watch the first 3, but if we get to the others we’ll cover them too.)
Watch along with us if you like and we’ll see you next week.

Okay, okay. Out of the heat of the moment, Boondock Saints wasn’t one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. It was just really, fatally stupid and boring for something touted as a classic. Like Pulp Fiction retold by someone with a lobotomy.
It’s interesting seeing how Adam and I approach movies differently. Adam appreciates parts of the whole more than I do–well-framed shots, good cinematography, individual scenes and lines. I appreciate that stuff, too, but the whole of the movie, the story it’s trying to tell, is more important to me. If a movie fucks up on the story, all the good cinematography and bitchin’ action sequences can’t save it (High Tension). Boondock Saints was stylish but empty and that turned me off of it. Uh, we’ll discuss later why I love the entire Matrix trilogy
.
But all of those preferences and analyses really boil down to buy-in. If the movie gets its hooks in you, you overlook the flaws and focus on the positives. If it fails to get that buy-in, it’s the opposite. That’s the reason people defend Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade but pummel Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, even though their shortcomings and contrivances are similar.
So, y’know, we should all get along and let everyone have their favorites and least favorites. Except for Happiness, High Tension, and Identity. Those can fuck right off.
I pretty much agree with the thoughts on Idle Hands and Fido. Although, I was disappointed no one mentioned the wonderful pair of boobs you did get to see in Idle Hands. But yeah, Jessica Alba was stupid-hot in that movie.
I love that I never 100% agree (or even 50% agree) with any one of you on any given episode. Despite wishing Josh would be attacked by a serial crusher, I also enjoy the Matrix trilogy.
So, keep on giving us a wide range of sane and insane opinions.
I call dibs on insane opinions!
You’re going to have to fight Josh for that title, buddy.
i dunno man. Sounds like josh is pandering to the peoples of HSHD land instead of standing by Boondocks saints worst movie of all times thing he did on the show.
in all honesty guys. When josh says something is the worst movie ever. Thats just his internet insides leaking out. so we cant fault him for that since it happens to everyone sometimes. Eitherway Agent Smecker is still one of the greatest characters in the history of film… see happens to everyone.
Apropos of nothing I’ve just watched 30 Days of Night, and would love to hear everyone’s thoughts on it. It also addresses the ‘easy method to undo vampirism’ comments from a previous episode.
It’s been a while since I’ve seen that one, I wouldn’t mind revisiting it.
Anyone got any other good vampire movies for a theme week? I’d nominate the Fright Night remake; that was superior to the original, in my humble internet opinion.
From Dusk ‘Til Dawn? Daybreakers had some interesting aspects to it.
I just saw Daybreakers in the video store last night, and after thinking it looked cool, remembered I had already seen it and it wasn’t that great.
That happens a lot with movies I expect to be better than they were–I’ll find myself thinking “man, I should see Chronicles of Riddick/Troy/Alexander/King Arthur/Kingdom of Heaven/The Immortals” and then remember I already did, and relive the disappointment
.
