The Haunting of Hell House demonstrates a device for avoiding a monster reveal that is uniquely appropriate to haunting movies: They’re never confronted with a visual manifestation of the Hell House’s former owner, they ultimately find where his corpse is, destroying his power.

You could go this route in a lot of ghost horror stories, having the monster reveal/climax being the same haunting effects (telekinetic object movement, whatever) trying to stop the protagonists from salting and burning the bones of the dead man Supernatural style.

  2. I haven’t seen Little Witches since I was in my early 20s. (I’m around Matt’s age.) There are, in fact, boobs in it. They also hit a variety of ethnicities and weights in the boobage. So, equal opportunity and all that. I can see the parallel between it and The Craft. However, I think The Craft was a much better movie.

Oh, and I always thought The Faculty was one of my guilty pleasures. Turns out, it’s actually a good movie.

Next time you do 90′s horror, how about Disturbing Behavior?

Little Witches is kind of like the Craft, if the Craft had an extended middle sequence where nothing at all happens at all ever. There were massive amounts of gratuitous bobobies, though, I agree.

Lords of Salem had nudity, too, both of the Sherri Moon Zombie variety and the terrifying old lady variety.

And the Devils had a whole lot of nudity that failed to redeem it in any way, but Oliver Reed was acting his ass off and that helped a lot.

So nudity alone does not a good film make, but hey–it couldn’t hurt to try.

  4. The Faculty was surprisingly good. This was my first viewing of it and it was a ton of fun. It definitely sets itself apart from the shit show that was most of 90′s horror. The cast was solid and it was a well done modern take on the body snatcher story. 7.5/10

Inside was not fun for me whatsoever. There was very little tension for me and the twist was lame. The French people have not gained any ground with me with Inside. 2/10

The Conjuring is awesome. I saw it in the theatre and it actually stuck with me enough that I hesitated going into my basement to do a load of laundry that night. It’s been a LONG time since a movie had actually creeped me out. There are some many great scenes in that movie, but the best one is when the girl sees something behind the door. That was intense. I don’t think they needed to show the demon until it took over the mom, though. The payoff point when you see her on the dresser actually took a bit of the wind out of the sails for me. I love this movie. 9.5/10
